Special Issue 11 of Exotica Moderne, features Woody Miller from Oakland, California. Woody's art graces the front cover and he is our featured artist in this issue! Woody is a multifaceted sculptor, painter and designer. We're honored and excited to spotlight his work. Also this Issue highlights the good works conducted by the fez-wearing members from the Fraternal Order of Moai. Catch the Tiki Time Machine returning again, resurrecting an evening out at Burbank’s The China Trader from 1952!
Additionally, we feature an article on artist Donna Mibus, who's clean style reflects the mid-century modern aesthetic.
In the rising Tiki Midwest, we hit the road and make a stop in Ohio at Tiki Underground. The owners Sean and Jess Coffey discuss their love of the Tiki scene and the transition and transformation from home bar to commercial bar.
Our favorite person in the kitchen, Tiki Lindy, ventures to Malaysia. She helps us discover and create some delicious Tidbits. Our man on the road Ray Wyland once again visits a home tiki bar - or in this case, multiple bars - you just have to see!
Cocktails and stories from Justin Cristaldi's "Carrying the Torch" discusses rums with Max of the Mai Kai.
And what makes issue 11 a "Special Edition"?
Included with each copy is the CD This Is Vintage Now - Volume 2, featuring an array of music from classic lounge and jazz to exotica and everything in-between. Producer, David Gasten, of LA's Swing City Productions has curated a great list of tracks and styles. You can read about him and how this CD compilation came to be, along with background info and liner notes about the featured musicians.
Plus we'll have our usual music reviews, pinups and more!
